OIL SPILL

Black gold from within the earth
Liquid treasure sought by man
Addictions shared by humanity
Across the globe, throughout all lands

An endless search to probe earth's crust
To drill deep in the inner core
When a find becomes success
The desire is to explore for more

When the greed for man prevails
Riches cloud the thinking mind
If the lust for profits grow
Decisions sometimes cross the line

Now the oil is spewing forth
Uncontrolled beyond our reach
Mangled metal on the ocean floor
Man-made robots work the breach

Pristine waters turning brown
Plume of death drifting free
Dying animals suffer alone
Environmental calamity

Oil soaked pelicans, turtles and fish
Choking dolphins feel the crude
As the veil of darkness expands
Anger and sadness becomes the mood

'Save the shoreline' is the cry
Fragile marshes be protected
As marine life continues to struggle
In the gulf now infected

Coastal communities feel the pain
Industry and jobs are lost
We continue to search for oil
And the use does have a cost

Pools of fire spit belching smoke
Tar balls pushed on quiet shores
Silent enemy slowly moves
We begin a new gulf war

Let us pray for those in need
May we remember the men who died
While the ocean battles each day
Let this tragedy be our guide                          Posted 7/10
